Movement is the Key to Health
Australian neurologists from the University of Melbourne believe that a person who wants to maintain their intellectual abilities into old age should be more physically active. This is especially true for women.
Acquired dementia is called dementia. More than half of dementia patients are women. Australian scientists observed a group of women aged 45-55 for 20 years. The women were constantly monitored and underwent memory tests. Before the experiment began, some lifestyle factors were considered – education, marital status, profession, presence of children, diet, and harmful habits. Their health status was also assessed – hormonal changes, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, height, and weight.
After the experiment was completed, the scientists compared all their observations and concluded that the main protection of the brain from degradation (dementia) is, surprisingly, physical activity. It does not matter how the movement occurs – quiet walks or marathon runs. The main thing is that the body receives physical exercise. This is the most important factor. Next in importance for maintaining health are normal blood pressure and cholesterol control.
According to the scientists, it is never too late to take care of your health. However, naturally, the sooner the better. Since the first changes in the brain begin after the age of 40, to avoid losing precious time, it is better to start taking care of oneself as early as possible. No matter how sad it sounds, dead nerve cells in the brain will never recover, unlike muscles, which can still be brought back to normal to some extent.
Take care of your health!
