About Jam: 8 Delicious Tips

Jam made from berries or fruits is one of the favorite treats of all time and cultures! Today we want to give some useful tips to those who love jam and watch their figure.

1. Did you know that jam can be made not only from fresh berries but also from frozen ones? To do this, you need to thaw the berries, add sugar, and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes. Cool down. Delicious fresh jam is ready!

2. To make tasty “proper” jam, it’s essential to follow the proportions: for sweet berries, use 1.3-1.5 kg of sugar, and for sour ones, about 2 kg. Add enough water to achieve the desired consistency.

3. If you are on a diet or watching your figure, you should choose this sweet dessert with reduced content of simple carbohydrates. Carefully study the label – the caloric content should not exceed 140-150 kcal.

4. It is commonly believed that jam made with fructose is a diet product. This is not true! In combination with certain berries or fruits, the calorie content is very high, unlike treats made with regular sugar.

5. The recipe for low-calorie jam is simple: in the recipe from point 2, replace sugar with a sugar substitute. In 100 grams of such jam, the calories will be the same as in 100 grams of berries.

6. To ensure that jam stays good for as long as possible, jars need to be processed and sterilized. This can be done over boiling water, in the oven, or on the grill – whatever is more convenient for you.

7. If you happen to catch the flu or a cold, remember this simple folk remedy – eat 2-3 tablespoons of raspberry jam. It contains acetylsalicylic acid, which helps reduce temperature. And of course, the taste of raspberry jam will improve your mood!

8. Jam and preserves differ from regular jam in their preparation method – they are made not from whole, but from cut berries. And with the obligatory addition of gelatin or agar-agar to achieve a jelly-like consistency.
