
5 Useful Habits for Good Digestion
For optimal bowel function, it’s sometimes necessary to make small changes in your lifestyle. Follow these simple rules to be healthy and full of energy.
1. Movement is life!
Doctors recommend at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity 3-4 times a week. Most of us lead a sedentary lifestyle: we sit at work, and in the evening we relax on the couch, watching TV or reading a book. All of this leads to disruption and slowing down of gastrointestinal tract function.
2. Balanced nutrition.
Both diets and excessive consumption of fatty foods are dangerous for the body. Balance is essential in everything! If you eat a lot of protein-rich foods or fatty, fried, smoked products, your intestines may struggle with that load. For proper bowel function, it’s important to consume a large amount of fiber, which aids digestion. This includes whole-grain bread, vegetables, cereals, etc. Natural fermented dairy products must also be part of the diet, as they contain bacteria that help in digesting food.
3. Drink water!
Doctors recommend calculating the amount of water necessary for your body using the formula: 30 ml of water per 1 kilogram of body weight. Normal bowel function is impossible without water, and coffee, tea, juices, and cocktails cannot replace plain, still water! And remember: if you spend a lot of time in the sun or exercise, your body needs more fluids.
4. Eat slowly!
When you rush, eat on the go, and don’t chew your food properly – your body may fail. It is recommended to chew your food thoroughly, at least 20 times for one bite. As doctors say, food is thus prepared for digestion and easy absorption by the body.
5. Manage stress!
The digestive system is the first to react to stress – we either comfort eat or find that “food won’t go down.” During stress, the body becomes more vulnerable to various infections and ailments. Get plenty of sleep, spend more time outdoors, engage in light physical exercises, or practice breathing exercises, and try not to overexert yourself.
